Out of the rich and rewarding student life at East Montgomery grows a deep devotion for the school. Within a matter of days the freshman finds himself joyously engrossed in the pleasure of new-found friendships, the serious business of study, and a mad whirl of extra-curricular activities. Yet by the time he is a senior, there comes at last that quiet moment of reflection when the real meaning of high school is fully appreciated. We, the annual staff of 1964-65, hope to present to you a small glimpse of the phases of school life in which we have all participated. Some memories will be happy ones, while others may bring back heartaches. Through our classes, and newly-made friendships which will last for life, we have all come to realize the deep impression which this school will forever have upon us. We sincerely hope that as time carries our most precious mo ments into the past, this edition of the AQUILA will serve to recapture these moments and to help us relive them as if they were happening once again. to MR. AND MRS. C. GLENN LANGDON, JR. ... because as teachers, counselors, friends— you have inspired, guided, understood us. .. because of your deep devotion to our school, your friendly smiles, your words of encouragement, your ceaseless efforts in showing us the importance of high educational standards and strong Christian ideals. . . because, through your personal interest and genuine concern dioring the past four years, you have willingly given us a vital part of yourselves. .. we dedicate to you, the 1965 AQUILA, as a lasting mark of our deep respect and affection for you. 4 Administvddion Dear Seniors: For the first time in the history of the school I am break- ing tradition by addressing my remarks to a particular group of students. Because you are the first four-year class to graduate from East Montgomery High School, I feel justified in doing so. You have a tremendous amount of ability which if channeled properly, you will make on society an impact to be felt for generations to come. In order to direct this ability into the right channels you must accept the responsibility that past generations have left as part of your heritage. To be grown is to be more than a certain number of years old. Being grown means being emotionally mature, mentally matiare, and physically mature. In maturity you will challenge the world by your efforts in whatever occupation you have chosen to make your life ' s work. Life measured by years is but a short time. The contri- bution that you will make in your allotted time will decide whether life shall be termed as an eternity or termed only the short span of years as we know it. That contribution must be in the form of service to mankind, dedication to society, and fulfillment to life. I shall be looking for the potential in each of you to make greater the contribution to your fellowman than that of any generation in the past. Keep smiling. . . it makes people wonder what you ' re up to. It ' s a long climb over fool ' s hill, but they ' ll make it (I hope), Mr. C. Wade Mobley Superintendent of Schools Scdool Board School Board: Mr. Hubert Moss, Mr. Raz Autry, Mr. Colon Blake, Mr. Andy Hacskaylo. 7 At 2ist, (leve 1 Have one! Covering more than 19 acres. Big? Yes. Because they ' re keyed to the future of Scotland Mills, Inc. Architect ' s rendering shows how plants, near Laurinburg, will look when completed in late 1965. What seems to be one plant is really two, with a common center wall. Stretching back from the office area, the left half of this vast project will be a finishing plant for bedspreads and blankets. The right half will be a finishing plant for kitchen cottons and terry towels. They ' re streamlined. Modern. Efficient. Beautiful. Designed for the future.
