THE 1970 EAST MISSISSIPPI JUNIOR COLLEGE LIONS The LIONS started off on two sour notes, but as usual came roaring back, under the skillful and deter- mined guidance of coaches Kilpatrick, Poole and Temkovits. The LIONS maintained a very honorable 7 win and 3 loss record. The LIONS tied for the lead in the North Division with East Central and lost the chance to play in the championship game by the flip of a COIN. 36 Ricky Pigott, Larry Joe Dykes. Gulf Coast Copiah-Lincoln 7 13 Delta Northeast 21 26 Itawamba Hinds 33 Northwest Holmes 45 Pearl River 23 12 [JC OPP. 17 23 24 14 29 18 7 37 COPIAH-LINCOLN TRIPS EMJC 13-7 The LIONS started their season on a sour note against the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves. Dave Camp- bell scored early in the first quarter to put the LIONS in front. The WOLVES scored two touch- downs in the final quarter, last minutes, after two costly LION mistakes. Hamilton intercepts CO-LIN pass. Bradberry unleashes a pass against NORTHEAST. NORTHEAST RIPS LIONS 27-21 The LIONS took a 21-0 first-half lead and then fell apart to lose its second game in a row. But even in defeat, the LIONS were great. They gained a total of 421 yards, 312 of which were on the ground. But the LIONS were to come back strong, soon . . . 38 LIONS WHIP HINDS 31-0 The LIONS finally won their first game by blasting HINDS 31-0. The first score came in the first quarter as David Campbell took it in. Then in the third quarter Dale Tucker booted a 43 yard field goal. David Bradber- ry accounted for the next two LION TD ' s, on runs of two and 22 yards. Sam Reed scored the final LION touchdown and Dale Tucker converted all four TATs. Campbell gains yardage as Russell Caldwell leads the blocking. Bradberry takes off on long gainer. HOLMES CRUSHED 45-7 Mike Williams and David Bradberry scored two TDs each and Mike Reed and Gary Brown scored one each, to lead the LIONS to a 45-7 victory over the BULLDOGS. Dale Tucker also added a 34 yard field goal as well as 6 PATs. The LIONS rushers gained 194 yards. This combined with the passing attack gave Scooba a 373 yard of- fensive machine. It was the first loss for the BULLDOGS. 39 LIONS DROP PRJC 23-12 The LIONS defeated the number 2 ranked team in the nation by a score of 23-12. The game was a 6-6 deadlock at halftime, but Dale Tucker booted a 29 yard field goal to make it 9-6. PRJC scored again, but the LIONS, deter- mined to win, drove the length of the field in six plays to go out in front. An intercepted pass put the icing on the cake. Gary Brown ' scores against PRJC. Sam Reed gains against Decatur. LIONS TAKE HOMECOMING TILT The LIONS took their fourth consecutive victory by the score of 17-0 over the East Central WARRI- ORS. David Campbell took the first TD on a ten yard pass from David Bradberry. Bradberry then hit Mike Williams with a 17 yard toss and the LIONS took a 14-0 lead. Dale Tucker added the points after and also connected on a 41 yard field goal. For the LIONS, it was their fourth victory in a row. 40 PERK WALLOPS LIONS 23-0 The LIONS took their worst beating of the year from the BULLDOGS of Perkinston. The LIONS could never get anything started. Behind by only 10-0 at the half, the LIONS were unable to muster up an offense. PERK scored twice more in the final quarter to put the game out of reach. Williams takes Bradberry pass. Stewart goes high against MDJC. LIONS RIP DELTA Mike Williams scored 3 TDs and Dale Tucker con- verted 3 PATs and a 33 yard field goal to give Scooba a 24-14 win. The LIONS first score came in the first quarter as Williams scored on a 3 yard plunge. Mike scored again the second period and the LIONS led 14-0 at halftime. The final LION TD came in the third quarter. Dale Tucker put through a 33 yard field goal to round out the scoring. 41 LIONS TRIP ITAWAMBA It was a cold and rainy Columbus night when the LIONS played ITAWAMBA. The LION rushers were led bv David Campbell who gained 190 yards on 32 carries. The LIONS were able to finally score 3 TDs, a safety and a field goal. The INDIANS scored two times, but were never a serious threat as the Lions won 26-15. Boyette blocks on a punt return. LAST GAME — VICTORY The LIONS rounded out the 1970 season with a 7-0 victory over Northwest. David Camp- bell scored early in the first quarter and Dale Tucker added the PAT.
