We, the 1965 LION yearbook staff, salute those who through- out the years have preserved this ideal. During the school year, we, the students of EMJC, have been encouraged by a dedicated faculty that gave them- selves to the task of guiding us in mastering facts, forms, and figures. The greatest responsibility has, of course, rested on each of us, since knowledge can be obtained only by the individual. May we, the stu- dents of EMJC, wisely use the knowledge which we have gained during this past year. -L _ . Man depends upon books as his greatest source of knowledge. On our campus one of the most effective forces for knowledge is the library — our storehouse of knowledge. The im- petus behind the success of the library is our dedicated librarian, Miss Peggy May. In her five years as librarian here at EMJC Miss May with patience and dedication has helped countless students to find information, to enjoy the library itself, and to enrich themselves through leisure reading. Miss May is an alumna of our school who was editor of the 7958 LION yearbook. This same year the students honored her with the title of Miss EMJC. For these reasons we, the 1965 yearbook staff, are especially proud to dedicate this year ' s LION to Miss Peggy May. ■' ?y jf College life leads to maturity. Knowledge with maturity leads to wisdom. Here at EMJC we have become more mature as a result of many things. We have learned better to understand ourselves. We have come to associate closely with our fellow students in dormitory life, in sports ' events, and in classroom activities. Our clubs and organizations have provided us with an opportunity to work together in a united effort. We have exercised our knowledge and our maturity by participating in student elections, which help to lay foundations for later experience of voting in local, state, and federal elections. Maturity, then, is the product of knowledge put into action. 1 Manjj area $f nur life at (filial help u txi hebetap maturity With America looking to its colleges for future leadership, the East Mississippi Junior College en- deavors to instill responsibility in its students. A stu- dent who is gaining knowledge and maturity has a distinct duty to take positions of responsibility. Since EMJC is a small college, opportunity abounds for students to exercise responsibility in positions of leadership and in positions of followship. To the threefold purpose of EMJC — to develop knowledge, maturity, and responsibility in its students — we the students pledge ourselves. 10 siMlitg mm II ; ■.. i -: % j | a. ) ■- 1 • • j | S i I-- J t i -  Half 1 - PI - ■n . y ame nf the $tut ente tohtf heltt pusttums nf responsibility this past year ♦ ♦ . It serves as a vivid reminder of the untiring efforts of a dedicated faculty and staff; it serves also as a most gratifying reminder of my enriching associations with you, the members of the class of 1964-65. We are indeed proud that many of our graduates are assum- ing important positions of service to this great nation and are making meritorious contributions to mankind. I know that you, too, will go forth to accept, with dignity and honor, the challenges and the responsibilities that await you. Many of the facts that you have learned soon will be forgotten ; but if you have gained direction and a true sense of value and of worth, then you will have taken a giant step forward in the noble process of education. My very best wishes go with you. Sincerely yours, h . crt b csu R. A. Harbour 17 iWrh of (Sm tee KEMPER COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT CHANDLER LAND FLOYD TOWNSEND L. D. McDADE EARL McKELVAINE W. W.
