To the Class of 1961-62: It is with pride and with expectation that I reiterate to you today ' s strategic position of the junior colleges of Mississippi. In recent years the most significant and promising strides in the field of education have, in my opinion, been made by the com- munity junior colleges, the fastest growing educational institu- tions in our nation. We are making great advances, and your role in our progress is indeed challenging. To develop yourselves to your fullest capacities is your duty to your country, to your fellowman, and to yourselves. I sincerely hope and believe that each of you will accept this responsibility. As you go out into the world beset with tension and with strife, but also with endless opportunities, may you ever keep foremost in your minds that these opportunities are aboundingly available to those who work diligently to achieve success. MR. WARREN SWOOPE The fall of 1959 brought back to East Mississippi Junior Col- lege, Warren Swoope, who began his path to maturity here at this very institution. Since he has returned to our school, he has daily grown in the esteem of the students. He has come to hold the respect and affection of our athletes and to have the appreciation of our wonderful head coach, Bob Sullivan, wh o feels his confidence in him to be well placed. In his capacity as teacher, as dormitory manager, as coach, and as friend, the students find in him the attributes which qual- ify him to be honored by them. Therefore, we, the Staff of th 1962 LION yearbook of East Mississippi Junior College, dedicate this annual to Mr. Warren Swoope.
