Following President Wallace was President J. M. Tubb, who served the college as chief administrator from 1939-1945. Throughout his admin- istration, his outstanding personality and his deep interest in the welfare of students, especially during the trying war years, strengthened the college program and made it a service institution — one of the chief values of a junior college. His six years of guidance were terminated by his appoint- ment as State Superintendent of Education, in which capacity he is con- tinuing his service as a leading educator of this state. The present administration has continued the educational progress of the East Mississippi Junior College. During the past seven years eight buildings have been added to the physical plant, the campus streets have been hard-surfaced, the curriculum has been broadened, and the institution has become approved by the Southern Association of Colleges. Under the guidance of President Cruce Stark, the East Mississippi Junior College pushes onward in its program of education for the whole student as well as for all of its students. It strives to prepare youth for its decisions in the world of today. By a dynamic, stimulating, and completely interest- ing program, we of this junior college hope to develop to the fullest extent our ability and talents.

1927 At We are here to offer recognition to the three outstanding educators who have served as president of the East Mississippi Junior College. President J. D. Wallace became the first president of the institution after its organiza- tion in 1927. Upon his retirement from regular active service as president, the 1939 Lion carried the following tribute: For a period of sixteen years your un- failing will to work, your energy and your perseverance have been the guiding spirit of this institution . . . when faced with condi- tions or situations almost unsurmountable, you have refused to recognize that there was such a word as ' quit ' ; to just such a spirit on your part we feel that this institution owes its existence. Truly we are your grateful debtor. You found us with a mere school. You leave us with an institution. -m m
