Mississippi National Guard, sta- tioned at Scooba, was called to Fort Benning, Ga. for active du- ty in the United States Army. This was a big loss to EMJC, as the company was composed of 50 of EMJC students. Eeveral of EMJC ' s outstanding football play- ers were in the group. Satur day, September 23rd, the 123rd returned to Scooba to at- tend the football game between EMJC and Northwest Junior Col- lege, which was dedicated to them. However, it was the most successful football season I have ever had or expect to have. Last July I was anticipating fielding the finest junior college team in- the nation; yet after our National Guard unit was federalized, even people here on the campus asked me if we had enough boys left to have a team. Had the most successful season in the school ' s history. Scored 391 points per game. Pulled the biggest junior college upset of the year in defeating Little Rock, last year ' s national champion. Played the Mississippi junior college game of the week four times. Participated in the school ' s first bowl game. Was the only team in the history of Mississippi ever ranked as high as second in a national poll. Placed the only junior college player on the honorable mention list of the All-American team. Had the grandest and most loyal student body behind us of any team in the world.
