- M tf 3 f the lion 194 7-1948 published by the students of eos t m ississ ippi junior college joreuord I have known a word more gentle Than the breath of summer air; In a listening heart it nestled, And it lived forever there; Not the beating of its prison Stirr ' d it ever, night or day; Only with the heart ' s last throbbing Could it fade away. — Adelaide Anne Procter In choosing words as our theme for our 1947-48 LION, we preserve for you in print and picture a record of your friends, ac- tivities, and experiences on the campus of the East Mississippi Junior College. It is said that each person must ultimately live by his own words. May the happiness, romance, and lasting memories of this school year be expressed and recalled by the ten most beautiful words in the English language as compiled by Wilfred J. Funk: Dawn Hush Lullaby Murmuring Tranquil Mist Luminous Chimes Golden Melody — The Editor DEDICATION As a visible evidence of our recognition and appreciation of him who, through his tolerance, wisdom, unfailing energy, and dignity of manner, has made us conscious of the highest ideals and has given us noblest aims, we, the members of the annual staff of the East Mississippi Junior College, respectfully and sin- cerely dedicate this, the 1948 volume of THE LION, to our staunch friend and proficient instructor . . _ . When and where would you find as many college students on campuses who have had the experi- ences as you have had? You have seen peoples living under different types of government with all types of leadership. You have seen nations rise and fall. The responsibility in the leadership of this government and this country will b e yours by I960. We know what you can do under stress of war. . . . now demonstrate to the world what you can do in peace. To those responsible for this yearbook, we express our thanks for the presentation of college life. May each one of you, led by the Master Teacher, find happiness and success ' .
