FOREWORD Years pass very rapidly, and once past can never be recaptured. Realizing this, we have tried to print some of the most outstanding events of this school year. As many seniors of the past, we are eagerly awaiting the day when we shall be graduated; but we shall never forget the happy days spent in the halls of our Alma Mater. Since we are the first class to spend three years in East Mecklenburg, we shall cherish many happv memories-memories that will enrich our lives and memories that should make us better world citizens. We, the East High Eagles, feel that our wings have finally developed, and that we can now Mount up on Wings as Eagles and take our rightful place in the world. It is with pride that we present the Third Volume of The East Wind. May it keep alive in each of us the splendid spirit which we hope will become a tradition in our school.

ALMA MATER As eagles make their flight Across the blue and gold, Oh, sons, and daughters, of East High May we be brave and bold In spreading truth and knowledge Where ' er our paths may lead. Thy precepts, Alma Mater, Within our hearts we ' ll hold. The sun is eastward rising Across a clear blue sky; The knowledge gained within thy halls Is gold with value high. With loyalty and honor, We worship at thy shrine. Oh, Alma Mater, we now sing The praises that are thine. Page Three

DEDICATION ... With sincere respect and admiration, the Senior Class of 1953 proudly dedicates the Third Volume of The East Wind to Mr. D. K. Pittman, our principal. For the past three years Mr. Pittman has been a tireless worker. A more capable man could not have been obtained to organize and to lead East Mecklenburg High School to the heights she has now attained. He is always willing to lend a sympathetic ear to students ' problems and to encourage in students a greater zest for learning and good citizenship. He has shown an interest in community progress and in sponsoring programs of cultural and religious value to the school and community. We, the Senior Class, are grateful that we can leave our Alma Mater under the direction of such a capable and beloved principal.
