Mopeds, bikes, motorcycles, and good old foot power are some of the ways students get to school, but the vast majori- ty take the school bus. Herds of these orange monsters crisscross the neighborhood before and after school, pick- ing up and then discharging their human cargo at East Meadow High School. The morning ride is usually mellow; everybody is too tired to do anything. But, the ride home can be rambunc- tious and part of the happy memories of our high school years. The bus is late — again! For Laura Cavallaro, Ricky Mai, and Diana Celada crutches are the on means of transportation. Who needs the bus, when Rob Wright has his bike’ 28 Transportation

Homecoming was not just fun. it was also an important game for the Jets. The East Meadow Jets faced Lawrence in the 1984 Homecom- ing game. The day was overcast, and cool, but the spectators were warmed by the enthusiasm of the team and by the halftime show presented by the Marching Band, the Rockettes, the Cheerleaders, and by members of the classes of 1985,1986, and 1987. The band presented a rousing rendition of “She Works Hard for the Money and they were joined by the Rockettes and Cheerleaders w'ho did their intricate routines. The high point of the ceremony was the crowning of the 1984 Homecoming Queen, Barbra Kelly, who was joined by representatives of the local government, the East Meadow School Board, and the ad- ministration of the school. A halftime parade followed with floats prepared by each of the classes. Queen Barbra Kelly pre- sided over the Homecoming Dance that evening. Ron and Nancy came to throw jelly beans at the crowd in order to win some votes. Homecoming 27
