New York Volume No. 11 5 The ideals of youth enable it to overcome the challenge of our changing world in order to better the society of the future. Youth is faced with a multitude of obstacles and crises, but It is the natural temperament of youth to respond by overcoming a big task. A consoling voice, a smiling face, a thoughtful nod, and a gentle hello will brighten his outlook. When this understanding and rapport is de- veloped between the student and a teacher whom he respects and admires, self-confidence is renewed and courage is strengthened. This man's belief in the dig- nity of the student deepens the influence he has on all who know him. Therefore, it is with great honor that we dedicate R6sum6 1967 to Mr. Edward Gerardi. ACADEMICS Academic study is the prime factor in the development of an individual. Knowledge gained in school is a result of per sonal initiative and the efforts of qualified instructors. With deep insight into their respective fields, the members of the faculty transfer their knowledge to the students. Class discus sions are given a new light as teachers reveal the hidden character of basic subiects. The work of the faculty forms the foundation on which the student's education is built and ex panded. It is their |ob to change indifference into enthusiasm and involvement. With enthusiasm and bright new ideas, the Junior Class officers strive to make the class of 1968 the most spirited group of students in East Meadow High School. The success of the maga- zine drive proves that these officers are determined to pass all former records. The Mardi Gras theme for the prom has inspired many original ideas for decoration and entertainment. For the first time in the school's history, the Juniors have class shirts. Under- classmen no longer stand in the background of events. They have become an integral part of school activity. 50 C-l, C-2 First row: D. Albach, W. Arbert. N. Auerbach. J Alter. R. Ar mentam. P. B. Winder ACTIVITIES Classroom instruction and individual study form the foundation of learning. These methods alone, however, cannot provide the broad education which is necessary for a well-rounded person. The student of today must develop his in- terests and strengthen his abilities. Through active involvement in extracurricu- lar clubs and organizations, the modern youth learns to accept the responsibility of a difficult task and can appreciate the satisfaction which accbmpanies a job well-done. Participation in schopl affairs, therefore, stimulates individual initia tive and enables the student to mature socially as well as intellectually. Discussing ideas for the theme, reviewing prospects for the dedication, and making plans for the arrangements of sections, these editors were intent upon creating a sensational yearbook. There was much work to be done, but the Febru- ary deadline seemed a long way off. Within months, scattered plans soon become finished layouts. Copy was written and re written. The different segments of the yearbook were gradually put together . . . R6sum6 was almost completed. During the last few weeks, everyone was frantic. The deadline could never be met; how would they ever finish. One by one, however, missing photographs and captions were found. Pages were added; others were de- leted. A small oriental bridge and a huge green Buddha towering over the guests were constant reminders of the Far East. The crowning of the Emperor and Empress by Dr. Sellers provided the climax of a memorable evening. The Junior Prom was a total success. He weighs the accomplishments of his past years and plans for the future. He realizes the mistakes that he made in previous years, and with a deeper un- derstanding of these errors, he becomes more wary. A little wiser and a little more responsible than he was upon entering the high school three years ago, he has learned to recognize and accept valid criticism. A goal set at the improvement of his talents and toleration of others’ ideas and opinions inspires him to improve his future.
