'DV I I John Ferlaino demonstrating correct batting stance. The ELHS baseball team, rounding out a very successful season, played six seasonal games of which they won five. They proceeded to the State semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Cleveland Benedictine who in turn were defeated by Cincinnati Elder for the State championship. The Potter squad was led in hitting by Bob Thompson, who at the close of the season had a batting average of .424 He was followed by Larry Vermillion and Bernie Allen, both of whom had an average of better than .300. The big gun of the pitching staff was George Hornick, who won seven and lost one. The outstanding performance of the Potters was based on the excellent coaching of Mr. Buckley. This marked the third season for him as the baseball mentor at East Liverpool High. 23 QU viii

Intramurals Tr Two-Hall League There were both new and old twists around the boys' intramural basketball league this season. First off, Coach Carl Pelini, intramural director, had a two-round league for each ofthe class divisions. The All-Stars in the senior league won their second championship in two years, while the V-8's and Litterbugs led the sophomore and iunior divisions respectively. Art Peters and Jim Conrad did a fine iob as referees. This was Peters' second year, while Conrad had refereed only a few games until this year. An all-star team, consisting of eleven seniors and one iunior was picked to play the ELHS faculty during an assembly, but the older men proved too much for the all-stars as the final score read, 37-24. Due to the fact this book went to press before the second half was over, no plans, as yet had been made for a tournament. The intramural leagues are getting more and better competition each year, and if you like good basketball without having to pay, you'Il enioy these games.

Q ' ' Rounding out a pleasant season, the ELHS golf 'W T MA squad played six home and home matches and Q participated in the Sectional Tournament at Bridge- ff' port. They played Steubenville Big Red, Weirton, ,fl S' and Steubenville Central Catholic. They won three, lost three, and placed fifth out ofthe twelve teams that entered the Sectional. The team was led by Captain Gary Wade. Returning letter-men for this spring are Tom Fuller- ton, Jim Bevington, and Bob Klubert. This marks the eleventh season for Mr. Nate Lorah as coach ofthe Golf Squad.
