Karaffa s basketball teams had won 39 straight games before his varsity team lost to Farrell in the season opener. Coach KaraHa used his substitutes freely the biggest part of the season trying to find the right combination. In the final game of the year the head mentor found his combination when the Potters defeated Wellsville, 78-67, as everyone of the starters hi' in double igures. Coach Karafta succeeded Mr. Merrill Hall, whO had been head coach for the Potters for nine years.

Dave Hoppel won the Bob Lewis Outstanding Wrestler Award at Worthington. The grapplers w re third in the Regional and l5th in the State. Lower right: In the 130 pound class Norman Rambo IS trylnq to pin Ins opponent from Brilliant. Rambo won this match by a decision. The 57 wrestling squad of ELHS did a bang up 'ob by winning lO out of T2 seasonal matches They were only defeated by Bridgeport and Barns ville They made up for these losses by having 7 grapplers place in the Regional Tournament ln the State Dave Hoppel won a second place by a close decision and Frank Bookman and Gary Kraft lost consolation matches The Potters wrestled home and home matches with Springfield Twp Weirton Bridgeport West Allegheny, and Barnesville. They also contended single matches with Brilliant and Massillon. Mr. Lou Venditti originated wrestling at ELHS and has been coach continuously for the 8 years it has been a sport at ELHS. Since beginning his squads have had a record of 48 wins against 29 losses.
