Bernie Allen and Tom Rodtong completed six of eight passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Potters to a 41-6 romp over STEUBEN- VILLE BIG RED and end the long rivalry between the two schools. This was the second straight win tor the Potters for 1957 and the twelfth over a period of two years. The ground game was not to be overlooked as the f1eet backfield picked up 291 yards rushing. xr A determined STEUBENVILLE CATHOLIC CENTRAL football team came onto Patterson Field in the second half and scored three times to defeat the Potters, 20-19. Early in the third quarter Joe Prest, CentraI's ace quarterback connected for the Cru- saders' Grst score and the thirteen point dehcit. Shortly Vargecco intercepted an Allen pass and Miltko scored tive plays later. SteubenviIle's hnal score came in the fourth period by Miltko, who also added the winning extra point. Some very Hne running by Jack Dopler and George Hale proved to be the deciding margin in the Potters' opening game of the '56 season as they ran up the biggest score since 1952, namely 53-7. This was the Potters' eleventh straight win and a very impressive one for Coach Lou Venditti as it marked his initial victory as head mentor at ELHS. The CLEVELAND EAST TECH SCARABS were no match for the Potters, who averaged 8.4 yards per carry. The Potters were stopped in their quest for thir- teen straight victories as a strong NEW PHILA- DELPHIA eleven came out on the big end of a 21 -19 score. Bernie Allen was unable to kick extra points for this contest as a knee iniury put the damper on the Potter ace. Although the Potters led at half- time, 13-7, the hard-hitting Quakers took the lead in the third quarter and were never headed again.

Nate Lorah remains as the Blue and White faculty manager as Merrill Hall fills the newly formed position, director of athletics. The East Liverpool Potter Gridders behind the fine coaching of Louis Venditti and his assistants literally ran and passed their opponents to death by scoring 407 points and ending the season with a splendid 8 2 record The team was piloted by quarterbacks Bernie Allen and Tom Rodfong both excellent ball handlers and passers while Jack Dopler George Hole and Bill O Neil got most of the yardage on the ground The line was led by ends John Yanni Tom Bryan John Hutchman Bill English and Tom Kelly The tackles played their positions well and were headed by Bob Jennings Jim Emmerling Lew Ross and Art Peters, while the guards, Dan Ogilvie, Bill Ash- baugh, Nick Musuraca, and Mike Kapp, stopped much bigger lines. Jim Dallis played at the center position except for the Toronto game in which Sophomore Joe Leigh played an exceptional game. This win was the Blue and White's eighth of the year and eighteenth over a period of two years as against two losses. The Potters broke the school scoring record in this game, while stopping almost everything the Aviators offered. This marked the fourth win, and second straight, for the Vendittimen, as against two losses. Tom Bryan, iunior end, caught two touch- down passes as Bernie Allen kicked 'four out of five extra points. The Potters were fine on defense also, as the huge backfield from Bellaire scored only two touchdowns. George Hale, the Junior portion of the Twin Terrors, ran over two hundred and forty-four yards of SALEM real estate, while scoring three touch- downs as the Blue and White chalked up number six, 55-7. The Quakers couldn't stop Hale, and once he broke loose for eighty yards and one of his touchdowns. The Potter ends again played a fine ball game as John Yanni, senior end, made a tremendous catch in the end zone. M- X . .1 The twin terrors, .lack Dopler and George Hale, made short work of the YOUNGSTOWN RAYEN TIGERS as they scored four and three touchdowns, respectively, and gave the Potters their third win of the year. Dopler had runs of twenty, twenty- three, and thirty yards while Hale had runs of three and sixteen yards. Some very fine passing also aided the Potters in their 54-7 win over the Youngs- town team. Dopler scored on a pass from Bernie Allen and Dopler hit Hale for another score. -. -ui af L ,,... Every- thing happened: from an interception turned into a touchdown to the first field goal by a Potter player in ten years. Tom Kelly, a reserve end, intercepted o pass and returned it thirty-three yards for a score. Bernie Allen had earlier kicked a ten-yard field goal.
