This summer the boys spent a week at band camp, at Camp Chibiabas. They also were the guest band at the National Soap Box Derby held at Derby Downs, Akron, Ohio. Last year the band received a rating ot excellent at the County Marching Band Contest held at Salem. The girls who wanted to be in the band were given lessons by their director, Mr. Delbert Smolre. The blue and whife uniforms were bought' by fhe girls. Over half the girls were in- experienced in playing and had to learn from scrafch. The march- ing pracfices were under the di- rection of Mildred Hanna, head maioreffe. The members are students chosen from the Girls' and Boys' Bands. This is the first year that girls were permitted to be in the Concert Band. This gives them an equal opportunity to use their music ability in other ways than the orchestra and Girls' Band.
