The HOSA Clubs C Health Occupations Students of Amer- zcal second year has been an exciting and successful one. It has provided its members with many opportunities and learning experiences in their pursuits of medical professions. HOSA is proud of the activities they have initiated and in which they have participated. We assisted in the Cancer Screening at the Lincoln Health Centen celebrated HOSAS tenth birthday, and have heard excellent and informative speakers talk about different health careers and topics. Four of our members and Mrs. Abernethy, our advisen attended a Leadership Retreat at Burns High School in Shelby. During the Christmas Season, HOSA held a Christmas party for retarded children at our school. HOSA members made litera- ture concerning suicide for Suicide Awareness Week. This literature was made available to students and teachers. Some of our plans for the remainder of this year include: HOSA Competitions, assisting in the Bloodmobile, initiating S A D D. !Students Against Drunk Drivingl, and a rock-a- The HOSA members wish to publicly express sincere ap- E D preczation to Mrs. Abernethy for all shes done to make this club such a meaningful and profitable experience for each of We are all excited about our HOSA Club and hope our activities will benefit our school and community. The members are taught a variety of youth concerns, includ- ing nutrition, fitness, teen pregnan- cies, strengthening the family, working with children and the el- derly, and career exploration. East has thirty-eight FHA mem- bers under the supervision of Mrs. Carolyn Thackston. These members are developing new friendships and having fun while teaching people about nutrition and other family concerns.

Health Occupations Education-II Doctors Nurses, Lab Technicians . . . Health Occupations Education-II IHOE-Ill has twelve senior students. HOE-ll is an in-depth course for students who have career interest in the health field. lt provides the students with the opportuni- ty to rotate through Clinical Health Agen- cies, such as various hospital departments, nursing homes, doctors' offices, and many more.
