Owl c ScfzooL . . To us, our school means everything: Dear friends, good fun, and much to learn. To us, a place we love to go, We’d rather here, than elsewhere turn . . . . And, when we need to seek advice, It’s friendly port in any storm. We know that teachers here are friends, We know their welcome’s always warm . . . The students, teachers, and the deans, Help make our school this way: A place for friendly learning, And a chance to enrich each day............. . . Long after leaving these hallowed halls, And bidding each old friend “good-by,” When only memories prevail, We’ll ne’er forget our Leyden High . . . .

AAzdieatLon . . . I Miss Bess Flood . . . THIS IS YOUR LIFE . . . after you attended the University ■ of Nebraska for a B.S. degree in Mathematics, you taught in a rural school and a primary school. Later, you taught high school in Nebraska, and even became Superintendent of two different, very small schools, having twelve grades with only ten teachers. In 1929, you joined the teacher's staff of Leyden Community High School. . . . remember twenty-five years ago, when only two hundred to three hundred students enrolled at Leyden, with the school day an hour shorter? And what about those days when you and the other teachers helped with plpys and cooking dinners, besides teaching school? ... a gleam comes to your eyes when former Ley-denites return to tell of their occupation or college life. Almost everyone has the same quote, Gee, now I appreciate your strictness and encouragement to work hard while in high school, to form good habits for the future, and to be better adjusted in college. ... as it has been said in the past, it is said again in the present, Leyden loves you. Miss Flood, with your warm smile and pleasant personality, just as you love Leyden. . . . THIS YEAR'S ANNUAL STAFF CELEBRATES YOUR TWENTY-FIFTH YEAR, BY DEDICATING THE 1954 LEYDEN EAGLE, TO YOU, MISS BESS FLOOD.
