ORCHESTRA This year marks the tenth anniversary of the orchestra. Boasting of 72 members in comparison to 15 members 10 years ago. the group, under the direction of Mr. Stark, has so enlarged that now in 1938 the instrumentation meets the requirements of a symphony. In 1935 the orchestra took second place at the state contest; in 1936 the group took first place in both district and state, making them eligible for the national contest in 1937. at which time they ranked in second division. 16 CHOIR The choir, also under the direction of Mr. Stark, is a combination of the girls' and boys' glee clubs. The majority of the group consists of underclassmen and a well-trained group of mixed voices will be in force next year. Although the group have met only once a week, they have done excellent work and have appeared in two home concerts this year. Leyden has always been represented in the all-state chorus and orchestra at Champagne by at least two members from the choir and two representatives from the orchestra.
