CLASS OF 1940 With these officers: Thomas Vavra, president; Helen Nelson, vice-president; Lois Bork, secretary; and Melvin Meyer, treasurer, the sophomore class began the year. It was well represented in all activities. Out of 130 sophomores. 22 turned out for band, 15 for orchestra, and 30 for glee club. Twenty-four boys and 15 girls participated in sports and 7 joined the debate team. Of three prizes awarded for Homecoming floats the sophomores won two. For two years the Class of '40' has led the honor roll. The class play and party were both successful. 13

CLASS OF 1939 The distinction of being the leading class in musical activities, and having the largest representation in both the band and orchestra went to the juniors. This class had a good showing in extra-curricular activities: The girls had the largest number in G. A. A., and the boys were also prominent in football and track teams. The class play, ''Skidding, proved a highly successful production, proceeds of which made possible one of the finest proms in the history of the school.
