1ln the colrtralrv rnlv to 1I1 1rib1' Slllh event u 1 Pl 1 v rn nlaltlng I-rom TI11 Ihr 11 Nln ke err THE CLASS OF 1929, A FOUR PART SCENARIO l'he Class of 1929 .lear frrends, has Just. frnrshed pro ducrng wrth a full cast consrstrng of all members the mo t thrrllrng and most vrfrd drama they have so far known It was produced rn tour parts wrth approprrate rntermrs rons Prom the very begmnlng of the Ilrst part uf to the and of the fourth rt was truly dramatrc rn that rt was throughout, a struggle of purpose on the one srde and a strrung to overcome rnnurnerable obstacles on the other Fortunately for us and rn lrne wrth the tradrtrons ot popular dramr the productron has termrn ted rn a happy endrng As no motron prctures were taken of the the contrnurty of the scenarro frllrng rn here and there such detarls as may add to your enjoyment of the hrgn spots of the story The cast assembled, thrrty strong one September mornrng rn 1925 to begrn work rn the portable studros We were takrng the part of Freshmen rn that scene and I must confess we were rather green actors However after adjustrng ourselves to the new work we :began to learn our lrnes pretty well and act our parts well enough to satrsfy our stage drrector, Mr Fowler The upper classmen pl nned a party for our benefrt Before we left the school bulldrng a group of senror boys had made a trall wrth green paper all over town leavrng the rest of the school to come after them prckrng up the trarl and gorng wherever the paper was found At the frnal camp rng ground a feast was served As an rnrtratron stunt the freshmen were made to wart upon the upper tlassmen durrng the supper and wear green paper caps Our frrst faculty advrser was Mr Baker Upon the resrgnatron of 'W Fowler Mr Baker became our stage drrector and Vlrs Welsh, a new member of the faculty took hrs place as faculty advrser Our frrst productron for the publrc was rn the form of a radro program We broadcasted our program to the student body Screens were rranged an front of the room and thrs served as a broadcastrng statron Rose Irberta tuned rn on a fake radro and the statrc was made real by the squeakrng of Florence O Con nell s vrolrn Plano and vrolrn musrc was furnrshed The announcer was also present and all rn all wp at once let our upper classmen know we were not qurte uumb Of course the credrt goes to Mrs Welsh The Lrbretto call ed for a Chrrstmas and New Year s rnterv al, and you may be sure we w ere grateful for the breathrng space After wards however we had to go back to our parts harder than ever for we were told that a strong frnrsh for thrs Freshman scene as rt was called rn the book was abso lutelv essentral rn order to lav the groundwork for the scene th t was to follow We were almost breathless I can tell you when the trme came for rntermrsslon rn June In September 1926 we agarn assembled wrth only lalf of our former cast ready to enact the second or Sophomore scene We were much more sophrstrcated by that trme and knew pretty well how to manage The stage drrector and the musrcrans who were known as the Faculty Orchestr no longer terrrfred us for we had come to learn that althougl often stern of vrsage they were krnd and warm of heart we found them to be sheep rn wolfs tlothrng rf vou get what we mean' Durrng our second year rn the lrme lrght Mrss Thomas came to advrse L. and to lead us to success The Sophomor scene we found to be pretty heavy stuff Tne lrnes we had used rn the previous year wouldnt do at all Every one of us had to learn new parts and master new specral JUNE 1929 Fl-i1-s sou I-11 11 ll s' I-s. l'h In 1l1-url!
