DIOR class hlS1ZOl2 Open them pearly gates, called the cheerful little cherub who has led the class of '55 along the steep stairways to the long awaited golden gateways. Let's stop off a minute on that top rung and look down over the way we have come. In 1949 our cherub chum opened the doors of ELHS, and we took our place on the first step of the golden stairs. Our first two years in Junior High proved that the class of '55 was off to a good start under the leadership of Dave Mc Caffree. Come on you guys and gals of '55, This is a big jump, echoed the voice of our friend as we entered Senior High School. That year we elected Bob Elliott, Bob Edwards, Mary Hayhoe, and Marilyn .Tones to lead our class. Dave McCaffree and Kay Byers represented us in Student Council. Our cherub had an exciting time at Evening in Paris, our Freshman class party, and also at Fiesta, our all- school party. Our sports-minded chum took a big interest in Ken Slotnick, Arnold Nedelman, Butch Assid, John Schell, Bruce Blakeslee, and John Abbott who re- presented us on the varsity squads. By the way, don't forget our freshman football team which was unde- feated, As the next year whirled around, we climbed higher and, if we looked sharply, we could see the tip of these golden gates. Our ideas and ideals were voiced in Student Council by Bob Elliott, Ann Fee, and Dave McCaffree, Stu Foster, Priscilla Shaver, Nelda Trout, and Peggy Holcomb brought us through a very successful year as our class officers. We all had loads of fun when we chartered a bus to one of the away games, and you can guess where we found our little friend: that's right-- in the bus with four of our girls who made Varsity Cheerleading. He went along with us on the S.S. Lurline, our sopho- more prom, and was found on deck looking ata Harvest Moon which reminded him of our class party earlier that year. That year many of our boys represented us in athletics. Therel See that glitter. Well, that's the pearly gates, exclaimed our cherub chum, and we realized we didn't have much farther to go, Bob Elliott started us off by serving as Veep of Student Council, along with our representatives Judy Green, Dave McCaf- free, Jean McElroy, and Nelda Trout. Our Junior Class President was Bob Edwards and helping him guide our class were Peggy Holcomb, Mary Hayhoe, and Tim Kraft. We understand that Sir Cherub was a great deal of help to Jean McElroy and John Abbott who were co-chairmen of the most tremendous J-Hop, Say- onara. That year we really went to work on projects such as a paper drive and the selling of booster pins. We are sure that all will agree that our little cherub must have had something to do with our successful Junior Play, Cuckoos on the Hearth. Participating enthusiastically in all sports were several Junior boys. Drawing that prosperous year to a close was the annual J unior-Senior Banquet where we found our little friend looking forward to the last big step, our Senior year. Soon summer came to an end and our cherub chum opened the doors of ELHS for our last time UD. We are now Seniors and we find ourselves sitting on the top step of the long, winding staircase. Before we venture out into the world, let us take one last look at our. Senior year. That was a year that shall long be remembered by all. Bob Elliott, Peggy Holcomb, Janet Beaman, and Jean McElroy were the quartet of officers chosen to rim the Student Council. Helping them were Ann Fee, Mary Hayhoe, Nelda Trout, and Stu Foster. Our cherub chum was seen most of the time sitting on the shoulder of Dave Mc Caffree, once again president of his class. Aiding Dave and doing a terrific job were Ben Smith, Jo Cheeseman, and Marilyn Jones. Sports played a big part in the life of every Senior this year. The main social highlight of football season occurred when Sir Cherub danced on the tip of the crowns of our Homecoming King and Queen, Bruce Blakeslee and Suzy Bailey. One of the main goals we were striving for was our Senior trip. This took work and cooperation from all. The magazine sale, held for Juniors and Seniors only, was a big success. We also took part inarumrnage sale and our senior class play, Room for One More, which couldn't have been better. Our goal was finally reached and we climbed aboard the boat for a three day cruise on the Great Lakes with visits to Chicago and Mackinac Island. Even Sir Cherub agreed the trip was a wonderful experience. On June 4, our last big social affair took place with our cherub chum in the midst of all the swirling formals and white dinner jackets at the Senior Prom. Now the time is drawing near when our high school days will be brought to a close. We wish to thank Miss Stophlet and Mr. Pulley for their helpful advice and interest as they guided us along the way toward the accomplishment of our goals. lt is not over yetg we still have theJunior-Senior Banquet, Baccalaureate, and then Commencement. The pearly gates are opening. Come on, Class of '55, echoes Sir Cherub. Yes, our last year is over, and the pearly gates are no longer just a glitter but in full sight. We have made the last leap. As we look down at the flowing staircase we realize that our cherub chum has brought us up the long path through ELHS. This experience has not only given us wonder- ful memories but has helped mold our lives so that in the future We will find a path or make one.
