Two of the losses were suffered within their first three games. They finished sec- ondin conference and Hurd nwthe Freshman Tournament. According to coach Mike Bubois, the team's success could be attributed to the rare combination of talent, depth, andgoodhumonn Their depth is displayed in the fact that seven different players either held or shared game high-scoring honors. Mike Hummel, Steve Stewart, and David Przybysz led the teanwin sconng, whHe Tony Hardy and Mark Bender led the way in rebounds. They had a 14-6 record and ended up 10-4 in conference, good enough for second place. Chris Baker led the team in scoring with Scot Rowin close behind. Earl Haper, only a freshman, distinguished himself as an outstanding rebounder. These three helped lead the team to twice defeat East Grand Rapids, the conference cham- pions, the only team in the league to do so. The J.V. finish- ed their season with a flourish by winning their last six games in a row, showing their great im- provement during the season. fAl The 1982-1983 Boys' Junior Varsity Basketball Team. The Varsity team finished with an excellent league record of 15-7-3. Although they did not win the suburban championship, Kentwood had the highest scoring accuracy in league play. After qualifying for the Ford Cup playoffs, they finished with an im- pressive second place. The Hockey team went on to capture the Regional title, allowing them to go to the State Finals. Here, their reign ended when they were defeated in the quarter finals. A few of the outstanding players were Randy Grubbs, Kevin Hausch, Kevin Timm, Steve and Greg Lankfer, and Stuart Scobie.
