Varsity l3.l3. Tons Again! The Varsity Boys' Basketball Team captured their fourth Conference Championship in a row with a 12-2 conference record. The senior players will be badly missed next year. Not only were three of them tBiIl Baumgartner, Steve Sommers, and Mike Westl voted to All- Conference, but Mike West was also named to All-Area and First Team All-State. Coach Mickey Phelps felt the leadership ability found in the seniors was the best he has ever seen in all his coaching years. The highlight of their season was winning their last 15 games in a row. They had a 14-6 record and ended up 10-4 in conference, good enough for second place. Chris Baker led the team in scoring with Scot Rowin close behind. Earl Haper, only a freshman, distinguished himself as an outstanding rebounder. These three helped lead the team to twice defeat East Grand Rapids, the conference cham- pions, the only team in the league to do so. The J.V. finish- ed their season with a flourish by winning their last six games in a row, showing their great im- provement during the season. fAl The 1982-1983 Boys' Junior Varsity Basketball Team.
