Girl Harriers Lead Field This year the Girls' Cross Coun- try Team finished with an excellent record of 6-0 in the dual meets. Although the girl harriers have no official conference, they are con- sidered to be the O.K. Red cham- pions. They took a number of firsts, seconds, and thirds in various invitationals. Out of 11 teams in the region, they placed second, missing first by one point. They finished 15th in the state. The captain for the girls' team was Jill Shaver. Tom Begerow coached the girls' team as well as the boys. Though the team was smaller than usual it was packed with talent with Senior Kern Covell capturing all conference. The other Senior players were Amy Centilli, MaryJo Fleser, Sally Liefbroer, Kitty Signs, Kristi Rober and Laura Stauffer. Dorothy Ulner, Kris Anstor, Kelly Carpenter, Emily Oitker, Dana Rober, Jamie Parsons, Sherry Hur- banas will be next year's players. The conference record for the team was 4-3. Kentwood was host to a quadrangler which Laura Stauffer and Sally Leif- broer made it to the finals. Their conference record consisted of six wins and one loss with some top finishes in invitationals. They finished third in regionals and took 17th in the state meet. The co- captains for this year were junior Mike Olszewski and senior Kevin Shoemaker. Their coach is Tom Begerow who has successfully completed his second year of Cross Country for East Kentwood. lAl Mike Kazmierski checks out in the trails.
