Puppies Prove Powerful! Puppies proved powerful in the 1982 Football Season. Coaches and team worked well together to make the year a success. Mr. Rick Smith commented that the entire team was outstanding. He stated, From the first day of practice to the very last hour, they worked hard together and played hard together. Enthusiasm was also a big part of their success. Although East Grand Rapids and Northview were tough, they still managed to maintain their perfect record. They stuck it out against even the most competitive teams. The most spirited players were Dan Ferris, Mike Force, and John Sitka. Their enthusiasm lasted throughout the season. Mr. Smith commented, What I expect from my players is to give 110 percent always and a lot of enthusiasm. lAl Ken Mills running the play. s . Q i v M A . J.V. Football Has Flough Season The J.V. football team ran into a rough season, but learned a great deal from it. Although the season was slow the team maintained a high level of enthusiasm throughout the year. They also managed to improve in ability and attitude. Coach Larry Corbett said, The defense showed con- tinued improvementf' The leading defense players were Greg Lankfer, Ken Ivlarlet and Brian Tuttle, declared Corbett. He also named the leading offensive team players as Chris Baker, Shawn O'Brian, and Tom Wagner. Though the team was smaller than usual it was packed with talent with Senior Kern Covell capturing all conference. The other Senior players were Amy Centilli, MaryJo Fleser, Sally Liefbroer, Kitty Signs, Kristi Rober and Laura Stauffer. Dorothy Ulner, Kris Anstor, Kelly Carpenter, Emily Oitker, Dana Rober, Jamie Parsons, Sherry Hur- banas will be next year's players. The conference record for the team was 4-3. Kentwood was host to a quadrangler which Laura Stauffer and Sally Leif- broer made it to the finals.
