DEll'Bl1t EXCHHHQB Day Parent Exchange Day is a day of interesting realization for kids' parents. Switching roles for the day gives parents an opportunity to see what goes on in school nowadays and experience the everyday activities of their child. The parents at- tend the classes and take part in taking notes, discussions, and the lunch period. This also gives the student a day off from school. Quiz Bow High School Quiz Bowl is a game of quick recall of facts. The teams were chosen by tryouts and competition in up to five sudden-death matches. Each game consists of two eight-minute rounds. This year's team consisted of Ted Bonarski, Steve Knoop, Tom Moses, Pete Waugh, and Torsten Toms, The team was quite successful in the first round in beating the team from Chesaning High School 240 to 80. They lost a later sudden- death round to West Bloomfield-Andover High School. But all-in-all, the team did a good job. l:lltlll'B l'0blQl1l 0 VBYS Future Problem Solvers is a group that in- vestigates the upcoming events that will alter and mold our futures. The Future Problem Solvers - consisting of Jon Bielicki, Ted Bonarski, Steve Bliss and Tom Moses - placed third out of 41 groups. Mr. Dan Vander Molen headed this group with great enthusiasm and helped a great deal throughout their competitions. This club helps develop thinking skills for the student and it makes them better equipped to handle problems they may run across throughout their lives. The Future Problem Solving Program is spon- sored by the University of Michigan. The club is organized so that teams of four people work on the problems together. The group did best in the subjects of Weather Control and Ocean Communities. QAJ Parents who tried a day at East Kentwood. 1 5 P' Music Dent. N gf . eses Band :rector After long and dedicated service to the music students of Kentwood Public Schools and particularly to EKHS, Band Director Donald Druart decided to call it quits at the end of this school year and head back to college to earn a higher degree and to broaden his horizons . Mr. Druart made the shocking announcement at the annual band and orchestra banquet. I wish to continue to develop my skills as a conductor of both instrumental and vocal music to update my education in the contemporary areas of music, computers, recording techniques and jazz, he ex- plained. The decision wasn't easyg however the thought of making it has been in my mind for several years, he confided. Mr. Druart taught for Kentwood Public Schools for 19 years, including several at elementary levels. After six years at Valleywood Middle School, Mr. Druart came to the high school in 1970. High points in Mr. D's career at EKHS include the first ever Number One rating for Symphonic Band at State Festival in 1975 and greeting President Ford twice at the airport with the Marching Band. He also enjoyed directing the pit orchestras for musicals such as Fiddler on the Roof. I will miss working with the kids and watching them become mature musi- cians, commented Mr. Druart, but I won't miss the paperwork or having to give students grades, he admits. So long, Mr, D and good luckl Actlvltles 45
