For the first year East has been the possessor of an official newspaper. Vfhat are they struggling for? Anyone l-:nowinq a member of the staff would not need to ask such a question. You see, the duty of these de- voted young people is that of searching out every printable morsel of news each month, and then to. by some method, render it newsworthy and fit for publication. Cf course. all types of people may ke found in this aqqregation- from frustrated editors to maladiusted artists all headed for the same qoal- to beat the deadline. These duties are much more easily listed than performed. as a ptfential journalist discovers. ln spite of these obstacles, they still managed to turn out an excellent paper each month and are to be commended for a Job extremely well done. The student council for 1958-59 consisted of members from the respective home rooms as well as representatives from the paper, Ram staff, library, and officers. Many important matters were channeled through the council to provide the opportunity for student voice and opinions. The majority of the issues dealt with the regulation of the school and the extra-curricular activities within East Junior I-liqh. rnakinq this year a memorable one and certainly a wonder- ful beqinninq of East's history. Quite often, issues were handled through the means of steering committees elected by the student body president. These committee-members can probably still recall the meeting Kliable to he held at any hour of the school day, therefore dangerous if one's homework wasn't quite finished! which, after all the ncn- sense and chatter, always managed to make the situation a little better all around. Handling matters from abstract artistry on frosted windows to gala student dances, the council has certainly been taking an active part in student qovern- ment. Mr. Bachelder was council advisor.
