X X Z X' 6 6 t'X l' S T'IilK71Z1J-fafblff History of the Class of '23 Four score minus seventy-seven years ago our fathers sent forth to this school about sixty would-be scholars, conceited in knowledge, and dictated to by upper-classmen concerning their seats in chapel hall. We are now en- joying the last year in this school, having tested whether any class so over- looked and so abused could long endure. I We, the class of 1923, have proven that though our usual ability in athletics, scholarship, and other school activities, might have been overlooked, it wasn't, for we have mounted steadily from the bottom to the top of the ladder of High School life and some of our members have starred in athletics and scholarship for four years. We have arrived safely at the top in spite of the fact that our most esteemed faculty have, with much difficulty, endeavored to impress upon our minds that Gaul was divided into three parts, that Johnson was a queer author notwithstanding his queer actions, that everybody in the universe attracts every other body with a force which varies inversely as the square of the distance between them, and various other importanttat least they call them importantl facts. There have been times when the heights seemed unattainable and great obstacles appeared in our way. However, by burn- ing midnight oil we were able to overcome these great difficulties and con- tinue our climbing. Although of a studious nature, we have carried out the maxim, All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, for we have been noted for the spice of fun, pep and spirit in our composition. This has caused our teachers some trouble though. Our Junior year was especially important, for then we were allowed by the powers that be to get class rings and give a class play. How long we had waited for these priveleges and how eagerly and hopefully we started out, Our play was And Home Came Ted a comedy which everyone who saw it thought it very successful. Our hopes and ambitions were more than fulfilled and we carried off everything with our customary pep and enthusiasm. Upon entering our Senior year many new fields were given us to con- quer, but we put our shoulders to the wheel and easily accomplished this. For our Senior Class Play, Am I Intruding the best ever, made the people sit up and take notice, and take off their hats to us. It was rare quality only that could produce a play like that, and rare- that's us. We have attained our goal but the members of the class of '23 will always remain true to Orange and Black and continue to climb to bigger and higher things.
