', NN , ,1 x x L A .,, ,- lem Emmy Our Senior H1 Y one ot the largest boxs organizations 1n school IS one to which tenth eleventh and twelfth grade boys are lnvlted It IS under the able superv1s1on of Laurie Carlson The 1n1t1at1on held in the school gym xx as one of the most important events of the year It was then that the older mem bers sought revenge for the tough time they had had at their 1n 1t1at1on The 1n1t1at1on was also carrled on outs1de of school when two of the boys had to go to the grax eyard and get an m scrlptxon on a certain tomb at eleven o clock at nlght Another boy had to convince the sheriff to lock h1m up in the Jail till the older H1 Y members came to get him out After the 1n1t1at1on ceremonies we went to the cafeteria to enjoy the refreshments that were ready for us We all had a gay time and are looking forward to the 1n1t1at1on of next year and frequently invited outsiders They consisted of sle1ghr1des swimming parties basketball games and the annual H1 Y dance WhlCh IS the most important event At thls dance held on March 9 this year a well known orchestra furnished the music and a floor show was put on As many as two hundred and fifty attend the dance each year Our club donated fifteen dollars for a school piano the greatest amount donated by any club in the school Our H1 Y basketball team played the East B team twice and lost both games but beat a tall and aggressne basketball team from Hawthorne We boys conduct our own meetings usually after school and make our own rules about the conduct of the meetlngs and our members Bob Urbanlak the president of our club in the beginning of the school year left early to serve in the Navy He was suc c eded by Francis Hexnen who also IS slated for an appointment with Uncle Sam Bill Haugh the vice president and Henrv Holum the secretary treasurer are seniors and are with the club for their third ye Senior Hi-Y 35 1 Y Y Y 7 A - . . . , . 7 We sponsored numerous activities for our club members ' 7 1 Y - 7 y I 1 ' . . v J l 7 D . . . . ' X 3, X Q -L Wfl P13511 -1 '1 'ff' WC? -f Al lem 1 1 We didn't have a very successful season this year, but even so the boys gained some moral victories by keeping their oppon- ents from runmng up enormous scores We started the season off with a victory over Proctor by a 30 to 0 score In our second game under the lights we didn t do so well against Duluth Central the Centralltes drubbing us D0 to 0 We pulled one out of the fire by setting back Duluth Cathe dral who has beaten us many times in the past years The score of that game was 7 to 0 We played Superior Central and were beaten though not badly We averaged about lbo pounds com pared to Centralites who averaged 190 pounds and had men who could put their average weight beyond 200 pounds They scored 24 points we nothing We were beaten by Ashland 27 to 0 In the final game of the season we snatched a hard fought con test from Superior Cathedral with a last minute pass to Don Hapy who went over with 15 seconds of the game remaining That score was 6 to 0 in our favor We ended the season with a 429 average on three wins and four losses In the scoring column Aronson Paulus and Hapy each had 12 points on two toucndowns apiece Wllmot followed with 7 on a touchdown and an extra point Our squad ran from '1 scant 110 pounds to the enormous sum of 210 pounds Some of the boys did get injured but none of them seriously When one of Bahr s boys would come to the office with an injured ankle to ask if he need come out for practice Bahr would reply When I was in college I played football on two sprained ankles We congratulate Bahr on the work he has done with the meager choice of materlal he has had since there were only 30 to 40 boys out for football We congratulate all the boys on the squad for their enthusiasm and vigor no matter how great the odds Proctor Duluth C ntral Duluth Cathedral Superior Central Ashland Superior Cathedral 0 East East East East East East ,Lad ffpdayga Q f J?
