Cgpeech Glue The year 1942 43 saw a Speech Club that we be lieve sets a new high mark for succeeding clubs to shoot at Because of program changes nine ot the original 26 members had to drop Speech work among them Doro thy Kottrnan president She was succeeded by Bev erly Wilcox ln Ianuary some of the club members took part in a northern district contest at Duluth Denteld The events were reading extemporaneous poetry radio an nouncing and dramatic declamations East was rep resented by Lois Coleman Margaret Faye Delores Swanstrom Margery Smith Geraldine Anderson lean ne Remus Iames Grinnell and Leonard Anderson Three of these finished with superior ratings In February club members started training East stu dents outside the club in speech work ln the American Legion Peace Oratorical contest elim nations Ieanne Remus and Dick Lent finished vic torious and both entered the district meet held at East March lO Ieanne took first place and accompanied by Mr Bale entered the state contest at Ripon She placed first in her division in the semi finals and took fourth place in the finals Margaret Bukowski student Red Cross announcer was recommended by the Speech association for an audition with KDAL, lust a week alter this successful audition, she was given an audition by WDSM lt may be the beginning of a radio ca.eer for her. 30-
