With the trill of the whistle, the flash of the maiorettes' batons and the rumbling cadence of the drums, the band steps onto the field to begin their last performance of a successful football season. Under the direction of James Gordon, the marching band featured many unusual and varied half-time shows. With their precision and intricate formations on the field, they entertained football fans through- out the season. The assistance of the Drum BAND Maiorettes and Orange Girls helped the band's peppy routines attain the qualities of perfec- tion and originality. The maneuvers were worked out and ex- ecuted under Mr. Gordon's planning and guid- ance. The many props used during the shows were designed and constructed by George Leebl, shop instructor, and Esther Oleson, art teacher, who worked in close cooperation with the band. Concert performances begin with the band's production of the Christmas auditorium. Later in the year the concert band performs, along with the choir and orchestra, at the Pops Concert. Sparks of enthusiasm are ignited by the Pep Band as it plays during auditoriums and at basketball games. At an after-school pep rally on Bermuda Day, Pep Band members gather in the front seats of the auditorium. During Swing Show the Swing Band sets the tempo for all members. Compiling an interesting and accurate record of the year's activities in our school of more than one thousand students has been the responsibility annual staff members assumed as they worked to produce this T958 Trojan. The thirty-one staff members, enthusiastic about producing an ex- ceptional account of the year's events, worked nights and after school, as well as on Saturdays, to meet picture and copy deadlines. Taking and collecting appropriate pictures, writing interesting and accurate copy and plan- ning layouts kept the staff members busy from early fall until spring, when they circulated the '58 annual. The cover design by Frank Smith and the ink sketches by Darrel Kelling help carry out the theme Our School and emphasize the fact that we live in the Space Age.
