Co-Champs of Big Six Providing many thrilling moments during the year, ldast cagesters were a tribute to Fast High and to its slogan, 'lthe school that leads. Various factors contributed to the tC2111l,S success. Among them was the depth of the basket- ball squad. Coach Murray XVier said many times that he could start almost any live and still pro- vide adequate competition. 'l'he team tied with VVest High of VVaterloo for the Big Six Conference Championship. VVith- out the loss of regular Ion Trost when the team started its State Tournament route, the cagesters might have advanced further than the first round of the district competition. Coach VVier called this team one of the nicest groups of boys l've had to Work with. Standouts on the team were Merrill Siler and Dick Dotson, two of the greatest cagcstcrs in the sports history of liast High. Dick Dotson and Merrill Siler, both elected to all-conference teams, paced the Trojans in scoring.
