highly-paid and well-trained workers will have to come from outside places because not enough of our own people are qualified. Therefore it behooves those who still have another year or so at East to use their time and select their subjects in such a way that they can seek and hold the best of jobs. How often have we felt in school that the subjects we take will never mean anything to us! A boy may steer clear of foreign languages like poison only to find himself spending a year or so in Germany or Japang and then he misse-rs a lot if he has no curiosity about a foreign environment. Someone else may fail to get a job at the A-plant because he was afraid to take physics or chem.-1 istry or math in school, or wanted the so-called easy subjects and got by as easily as possible. Another person may be up against it because he could never see any value in learning to write a paragraph of correct English. We reap as we sow may be a worn-out expression, but it is as true as true can be, anyway. The atom age has come about in our lifetimes, and the nearbyA-plant has put us at the very forefront of progress and modernity. Rather than be old fogies by the time we are old enough to vote, let's accept this challenge and make whatever sacrifices are required. By so doing,we shall become as great as our ability will permit, and never have any regrets about fatal mistakes made in our teens. We are just as smart as anybody else, and if we are de- termined, we will not fumble the ball. Opportunity has knocked at our door as never before in the history of Portsmouth, therefore, the big question is: Am I going to do something about it? Freshmen Science Class.
