Before coming to Portsmouth, Mr. McKelvey taught school in West Vir- ginia and in Barnsville, Ohio. He came to Portsmouth from the Paines- ville School System in Lake County, Ohio. He had been Principal at Har- vey High School for four years. After serving as Principal of Ports- mouth High School, he was appointed to the superintendency of the Ports- mouth School System in August of 1949.
