It is especially pleasing this year to dedicate our yearbook to a faculty member who has taught for twenty-five years, twenty-three of them at East High School. If length of service is any indication of dedication to the teaching profession, this faculty member surely fits the bill. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Edinboro University in 1959, a Master of Education Degree from Gannon University in 1976, and has earned graduate credit from Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan Universities. A member of our social studies department, this veteran teacher has had hundreds of East High students pass his way over the years, and each, in his, or her own way, has benefited from this teacher’s knowledge and insight of his subject matter. During his teaching career he has taught classes in U.S. Geography, World Cultures, Modern European History and Citizenship Education. Also for a short time here at East, he coached the boys’ tennis team, when he, himself was an avid tennis player. His favorite hobbies and interests include camping, tinkering with cars, walking, reading, identifying airplanes, traveling, going out for dinner, and most recently, playing golf. A family man, he and his wife, Sue, are the proud parents of three sons, David, Mark, and Matthew and are also kept busy at home with the family pets - a cat named Spats and a cockerspaniel named “Rags. ” It is with great pleasure and a sense of pride that the yearbook staff dedicates the 1987 edition of the Sunrise to Mr. James W. Granger. 9
