Mr. Sedlock, a Cleveland, Ohio native, graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. After graduating, he obtained his first teaching position at Wilson Junior High School in Cleveland, his hometown, and taught there for six years. With these six years of experience behind him, Mr. Sedlock decided to move to Erie. That move was our gain and Cleveland’s loss. And it was to East High that he started teaching. While at East, he has taught general metals and advanced drafting, where countless East High students have benefited from his expertise. At present, he has over thirty years of teaching experience and is Department Head of our Industrial Arts classes. Mr. Sedlock has earned post-graduate credits at Edinboro University and Pennsylvania State University at Behrend, and in addition to Industrial Arts, he is also certified to teach history and geography. Outside of education, Mr. Sedlock served in the U.S. Army in Germany for two years where he held the rank of sergeant in the engineer corps. A family man, he served as a Boy Scout advisor to his son’s church troop. His favorite activities include fishing, taking vigorous daily walks, riding the bus to and from work, and just “horsing” around. What part of his work here at East has given him his greatest satisfaction? Mr. Sedlock said, “Working with young people and helping them reach their full potential.” It is because of his commitment to education for over thirty years, his caring about the success of his students, his desire to always lend a helping hand, that the SUNRISE staff dedicates with deep respect and gratitude, the 1986 edition of the SUNRISE to Mr. John Sedlock. 9
