Dedication People in the news today . . . Who are they?” is the caption across the bulletin board of this East High faculty member who has been a daily part of each senior class for the past several years. A recipient of a bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College, this social studies teacher has engaged in a twenty-three year teaching career that started with fifth and sixth grade at Perry School, advanced to seventh and eighth grade at Roosevelt, included a year at Columbus Intermediate School in Tustin. California, and proceeded to eighteen years at East High School. His students value his expertise as an instructor of economics, law. and government, as well as a challenging educator in the A. P. History class. His elective course in applied consumerism was one that many seniors valued for its practical, functional aspects. In his position as senior class advisor, he has efficiently coordinated class elections, and directed the submarine sandwich sale, the sale of class mugs and T-shirts, and other fund-raising projects. He is chairman of the social studies department and a member of the faculty committee for the National Honor Society. Also he has served on curriculum committees for twelfth grade social studies programs. In addition he has successfully coached the boys’ and the girls’ golf teams for the past several seasons and has had a Pennsylvania State golf champion. Of course, golf and travel are among his many diverse interests. In recognition of his valued service as a challenging and motivating teacher in citizenship education and his creative leadership as senior class mentor, the yearbook staff proudly dedicates the 1980 SUNRISE to Charles N. Kent.
