Dedication For the past sixteen years, this teacher has displayed leadership and service in the communication arts and in the personal development of many East High students. A graduate of Albertus Magnus College, she previously taught eighth and ninth grade English, social studies, and typing at Sheriden Junior High School in Connecticut, before starting her career at East High in English and typing. Her communication skills are further evidenced in her position as adviser of the school newspaper and literary magazine. Under her direction, the Student Council has conducted Christmas drives for food and toys, has sponsored assemblies, and has conducted the magazine sale, as well as the drive for the new stadium seats. She is enthusiastically involved with senior activities in her position as coordinator of the senior banquet committee, the name cards and announcements committee, yearbook patrons, and commencement arrangements. Furthermore, she is eleventh grade class adviser and chairman of the faculty fund. She has also served on the principal's advisory committee and was a member of the steering committee for East High's evaluation. In addition to being a member of the local, state, and national teachers' organizations, she is an active participant in the Northwestern Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English. She has completed additional course work at Albertus Magnus College, Teachers' College of Connecticut, New York University, and Villa Maria College. Included in her varied interests are gardening, travel, the theater, and work with the Miss Erie County Beauty Pageant. In recognition of her continuous efforts in advancing the communication skills of East High students and through this projecting a positive image of our school, the yearbook staff appreciatively dedicates the 1979 SUNRISE to Mary L. Duncan. 9
