t'Every man must educate himself. Daniel Websteris quotation, set above the stage at East High School, challenges every member of the student body to do his own thing in education by becoming involved in a process of self-education. Books, teachers, classmates, the mass media, participation in school athletics and activities, added to enthusiastic school spirit-all become a part of our total self-education. Actively engaged in preparing to be loyal citizens of the future, we are learning to form intelligent opinions and resolutions about the current problems of the Vietnamese conflict, student revolt, racial prejudices, over- population, the abuse of drugs, and many others. But we must do our own learning, for no one else can do it for us. Let us remember that, although we are living in an age of constant change, that sometimes obscures a clear perspective of things, there is a better side to life, and our generation, more than any other, is given the opportunity to experience that good life. Our Age of Aquarius , a time of peace among nations, may be near, for the year 1970 marks the begin- ning of a new decade. At this time we hope that man, including the students of East High, will educate himself, so that he will discover the beginning of a modern-day Renaissance, an enlightenment and opening of minds and hearts. Ati the close of the following ten years we anticipate the return of peace, harmony, and understand- ing among all men. May we the students of East High School take that one small step for man in self-education so that we may participate in that great leap for mankind. With this thought in mind, we present the 1970 edition of the Sunrise. The SUNRISE Staff 1969-1970
