The wonderful times we had during the rallies and the tense moments we experienced while watch- ing our football team fight on to victory will never be forgotten by any of us. The exciting moments of taking our senior picx tures, ordering our class rings, going to the prom, enjoying the banquet, preparing for commencement, were times that were filled with joy and perhaps a little sorrow for many a senior. lt is impossible for us to forget our Alma Mater and in return we hope it wont forget us, the SENIQRS OF 1951. To the students are available many types of instruments' string, woodwind, brass and percussionj and their music ranges from classical to jazz. East l-ligh was well represented at the District Orchestra which is composed of out- standing rr.usic students from Northwesterxi Pennsylvania. EllUltt Choir acme of the vocal groups. From the time a student enters lr. Chorus or Glee Club, Choir is his aspiration. The training and experience acquired in the other vocal groups prepare him tor the Choir. lt is not uncommon to find several students either in Sr. Chorus or Glee Club who are in Choir also. This definitely shows interest in the musical education offered at East l-ligh School. Everyone around school has seen the look of happiness on the persons face who has just been accepted into the Choir, and fourth period they can be heard practicing for the many appearances they make here and at other schools in town. At Christmas time this group was active in assemblies and presented their wonderful winter concert. lt is plain to see that we have a fine Choir, one of which we are extremely proud. 40 lst Row: E. They are always a favorite in any choral proqrarn because people like to hear a rnale chorus, and because of the cute way they present their nunibers. At the annual Christmas assembly they literally stole the show with their rendition of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer , and their part the choral concert helped :nalce it the biq success that it was. So, all considered, this has been one of the best years for our East Hiczh Glee Club. 41' lst Row: A. Schaak, G. Kisielewski, E. O'Brien, V. Barany, C. Simanowski, H. Hariste, L. Schley, M. By the time they enter this group, most ot them have had at least one year's training in lunior Chorus, although it is not reguired. There's more to preparing the wonderful numloers they sing than one realizes. The girls must pay special attention to posture, proper loreathing, and clear enunciation. ln addition to this, Mr. Leemhuis plays records of well known vocal groups for them to listen to and study. The girls added much to the Christmas program, and closed a very successful year with the annual Spring Choral Concert. 42' lst Row: I. Greaves, D. Stewart L. Eqnet, N. Sherrell C. Neyer, N. They not only promote fellowship, leadership, and charac- ter, but add zest and spice to the cgnventional school program. Qrganizing clubs, planning programs, and serv- ing on committees are all ot an educational value. Rendering services, such as sending CARE packages to Europe, selling Christmas Seals, and distributing toys to the orphans are just some of the worthy causes that leave the members with the feeling of a job well done. The real thrills ot membership in an organization, however, are the gay dances, the frivolous parties. and the feeling of belonging. At East l-ligh School we attempt to develop strength and courage through a well rounded program of sports, a good intramural set-up and physical education classes tor everyone. Qur competitive sports include team and in- dividual activities. The team games include football, basketball, water polo, and tennis. For individual competition there is track, cross country, wrestling, tennis, golt, and swimming. For those boys who do not wish to participate in inter-scholastic sports but still like athletics there are intramural basketball, softball, wrestling, track, and swimming. ln addition all students who are able bodied must take at least two physical education classes a week. These include games, gymnastics, tumbling, and tun- damentals ot major sports. This wide and varied program gives every boy in East High School an opportunity to develop a strong body, to increase endurance, and to build up stamina. lllllltllEE '35 lllllllll Wtlllltllt Cur football team started the season with a bang, defeating M1llcreek. Sharpsville, and Bradford. The boys were then at their peak and outplayed Prep but lost let to lo. The letedown from this was followed by a 27 to O trimming by Academy. We then coasted over Ashtabula and lost to Earrell before redeeming ourselves at the expense of Vincent l3 to l2, Meadville l8 to l3, and Tech 9 to 6. This placed us in a three way tie for second place with Academy and Tech. We had our share of individual stars in Fred Morris, all city end, while Abramoslci, Pohl, Harrington, Szparaqa, and Dreibel- bies rated honors in the newspaper summaries of the season. ' Aw f t ,M4'N As I look back over my high school days, some things stand out in my rremory so strongly, that I am sure I will never forget them or the many friends associated with theni. l'll always remember the first noon-day dances' how the boys always gathered on one side of the gym and the girls wistfully watched them from the other Slflfs. It was loads of fun being initiated into the various clubs, and later, when we were seniors, initiating the new members. Pleasant memories of the fun I had at the Tri Dances remain vividly in my mind. It certainly was worth the terrors I went through until I got a date. I think back over all the things in school in which I've had a part, the Eastcapades, the various plays, the musical performances, and the clubs. These played an important role in my school life. The sadness of graduation and singing the school song for the last time still brings tears to my eyes. Sharing this common experience tied me closer to my friends. Yes, all these things and many more, stand out in my mind as my high school days come to an end.
