This was the band that performed on the loot- ball Field during the halves and ac- companied the cheering in their songs. Throughout the football season, the marching band rehearsed in front of the school at 7:30 A. M. three mornings a weelc. The concert band, consisting of the senior group only, presented the second portions ol the Winter and Spring concerts. The organization played at Gridley and Tech High Schools, and was chosen to march at the Thanksgiving Day East-West game. ORCHESTRA One of the progressive groups of East l-ligh School is the orchestra under the direction ol Mr. Burger. lt is good wholesome work with a very serious side to it. The idea of the orchestra is to make better musi- cians of those who play an instrument. The orchestra has played before the Strong Vincent, Lawrence Park, Academy, and other school assem- nlies. lt presents two annual con- certs, one in the spring and one in winter. With the start the orchestra has made for itself, it has become one of East's finest organizations. ,SJ1maielZaPerlcins, C. Chonaclci, G. Damico, ,l?A.R-ieidileyhleslixtzfiigrftglg.Pancerev, J. Besides doing the rand job of cheerleading, they displaayed their talent in the half-time football shows they sponsored with the Drum and Bugle Corps, Twirlers, and Band. Later in the year, they worked hard to give the basketball team added inspiration. ln the spring the Cheer- leaders undertook to perfect their cheers, make-up new ones, and train new members. Requisites for mem- bership are: a good personality, an active interest, and a better-than- average report card. Mrs. Beatrice Shevick is the patient advisor of this fine group. -:ix 1 f Q il '4 I 1,2645 F. Schulze. .af W. r E sf' . .4 M . ,it-as-Sy f 43 tx 4 - p. Some of these girls act as flag bearers and color girls with the Drum and Bugle Corps. This very colorfull grup is under the guiding hand of Miss Katherine Pille. THE TOM TOM An extremely small Journalism class made up the Tom Tom Staff, the East High Newspaper. School news, social events, sports, gossip, and general features are published in the student paper. Although the staff is composed mostly of eleventh and twelfth graders, some tenth graders with writing ability may be admitted. The Tom Tom was published month- ly during the first semester, when the well organized staff published an issue every three weeks for the re- mainder of the year. All of the typing is done during the sixth period by volunteers and mem- bers of the staff. The Tom Tom is now directed by Miss Eleanor Young. v 5 sf Standing. B, Kubasilc, C. Ring, l-l. Green, A. After Mr. Kellogg had arranged the numbers and each section had prac- ticed its own part separately, drum majorettes rehearsed the entire en- semble in Room 29. Preparatory to a football game or a special program, the corps drilled with the twirlers on the football field.
