Why IS rt that our boys graduatmg from hlgh school must defer therr plans to launch their careers untxl they have com pleted thenr commrtments wnth the armed forces? ' Y 7 Mlss FLORA S CURTIS MISS FLORA S CURTIS teacher and guidance councllor whose advlce and understanding has helped the countless students wxth whom she has worked started her career nn 1905 as a teacher of English Latin and French m Central Falls Hugh School Stx years later she entered Pawtucket Hugh School where m 1924 she began work as an advtser When East Hrgh School was erected m 1926 she began her work there as Dean and with Mr Hosmer inaugurated many new methods In admxnlstratton and gutdance Recipient of a Curtis took summer courses and obtanned her M A degree from Brown m 1956 Former puptls remember Miss Curtxs not only as a kmd advxser but also as the dnrector who bunlt up the Dramatxc Socnety and whose superb plays won recogmnon m the State Drama Festnal Wlth many brtlhant successes-three of whnch won the N E Drama Festival and many years of energetic service to her credit Mlss Curtis re tired as head of the Dramatic Society tn 1947 Her avnd mterest ln drama was not confmed to the school thespxans for Mxss Curtis belonged to the Providence Players Sock and Buskln and 15 one of the most actxve members tn the Pawtucket Commumty Players Besldes her work tn dramatlcs Mlss Curtis has always been very actxve m cnvnc affaxrs Through the years she has been noted for the actxve part she has played m the YWCA the League nme of her renrement she belonged to the Paw tucket Teachers Allnance and the Cnvxc Counctl on Educatnon Miss Curtts has been more than a teacher more than a counselor more than a dnrector She has been a source of mspxratton to every student who was fortunate enough to know her For her friendship and guldance we the class of Sl press out grantude B.A. degree from Mount Holyoke College, Miss of Women Voters' and the Quota Club' A' the U . . 4 -V ' .
