MR. JAMES P. MCGEOUGH MR. WILLIAM W. LEE p Pvfincijmfs M essa ge When I began my duties as principal of East Senior High School I was cognizant of many emotions swelling within me-emotions that ran the gamut from sorrow to joy. With sorrow I left our friendly but arch rival, West High, because of the many friends I have made among the faculty, the parents of the students, and the students themselves. For many reasons, however, I accepted with joy the promotion to the principalship of East High: first, because many of the facul- ty I have known since my earliest boyhood days here in Pawtucket, and it has been a pleasure once again to be with them, secondly, because many of the students here are children of parents with whom I was well acquainted back in those bygone days and again it is a joy to be renewing those old, dormant acquaint- ancesg thirdly, since my grammar school days I have known and respected Mr. Henry J. Winters, my predecessor. To carry, ever up- ward and onward, the high ideals set by him is a joy and a challenge. His was not an easy task, nor do I look for a road covered with garlands and roses myself. As you leave us behind, who have been your teachers and your guides, you have our hopes and prayers that, whatever you under- take, you will strive with all your knowledge, with your heart, Nad your intelligence to reach the pinnacle you have set for yourself. And in your heart have tolerance. In these days when hate runs rampant in the world, culti- vate the virtue of charity. If in our hearts each of us knew and practiced charity there would be little need of preaching tolerance. Don't ever be ashamed to pray to God, to put your trust and confidence in Him, to ask Him for the guidance and direction that He alone can giveg and rest assured that your fu- ture will be full of attainment and happiness. Good luck and God bless you. JAMES P. MCGEOUGH.
