Any Way You As East High students returned to school from summer vacation, they noticed that the hallways were just as crowded as ever, that Mrs. Barbara Prior was still principal and that Mr. John Phillips still taught senior Economics. Many changes occurred at East that went unno- ticed. The Social Science Department introduced two new classes to the curriculum: Sociology and Psychol- ogy. Both classes were taught by Mr. Fred Vanderley. Sociology ana- lyzes human social behavior, orga- nizations, institutions and the devel- opment of the human society. Psy- chology studies the mental process and behavior of humans. Other changes that went over- looked at East were found in the sports department. The boys ' golf team had its best season in 1 8 years. The team, which was dominated by 10 seniors, had a 4-3 record. The boys ' tennis team also had an out- standing season, qualifying for state team tennis competition. Any Way You Look At It, East is always changing for the better. Senior Lonnie W illiams runs the 4x200 relay with much determination and poise. The girls ' track team had an outstanding year, winning four meets and breaking six school records. They sent 1 1 dif- ferent events to the state competition, the most in history. Mr. John Phillips lectures in his senior Eco- nomics class. It is obvious these students are very interested in what Mr. Phillips is saying. Economics is one of the senior requirements f( graduation, and Mr. Phillips is an exceilei economics teacher at East. 2 OPENING
