Through the years, Tradition moves on ■ Homecoming Week is the week dur- ing the year in which East High students show the greatest school spirit. Student Government president Kristy Gamble, a senior, said, ' ' More than half the school participated because of the fun of observing the different outfits people can dream up. ' ' Throughout the years of tradition. Homecoming Week has always been a ' ' smash hit ' ' to support the Scarlets. v.v . Hippie-Day, Dress-up Day, Hawaiian Day, T-Shirt-n-Shades Day and Spirit Day were all crowd-pleasers. The Daily Review winners were Pat Loegering, a sophomore, for the best T- Shirt-n-Shades attire. Senior Kenny Deering won for his spectacular Jimmy Hendrix look-alike for Hippie-Day. Bet- ty Bartram, a sophomore, had a true- blue Hawaiian outfit and won the Ha- waiian Day contest. Sophomore Chris Hatchitt won by showing true spirit on Spirit Day by dressing up in a different variety of sport uniforms. Senior Mike Waters won the Dress-up Day contest by wearing a tuxedo. The Powder Puff game was exciting. The sophomores and juniors had a rough, tough, lean, mean game. The Powder Puff Cheerleaders, how- ever, were the icing on the cake. HOMECOMING QUEEN ATTENDANTS. Being a queen candidate is a very prestigious and honorable position. Homecoming dance highlights Octobe When Vm With You, this year ' s Homecoming theme, set the mood for a fun and romantic evening. The dance was held Oct. 1 7 from 8 to 1 1 p.m. in the big gym. The colors were peach and gold. Students danced the night away to the music provided by T.K.O. Productions. The dance, organized by Student Gov- ernment, turned out to be very success- ful. About 800 people attended, with tickets selling at $12 per couple. The money was spent on decorations, food and the disc jockey. Pictures for couples were provided by Mr. John Lethcoe for $5. Jolesch Photography provided the snapshots. Before attending the dance, students fulfilled their appetites at many popular restaurants around town. Some of the more popular eating establishments were Maxie ' s, Friday ' s, Riccelli ' s, Chi- cago Speakeasy, Garcia ' s and Crystal Tree. The Homecoming Court included freshman Amy Howe, escorted by junior Darin Adams; sophomore Jennifer Jen- sen, escorted by sophomore Robert Carter; junior Jodi Stout, escorted by senior Tom Steil. The senior queen can- didates were Raquel Larson, escorted by Dean Teuber (a Southeast Polk alum- nus), Susie Murrow, escorted by senior Tony Rose; Kristy Gamble, escorted by senior Jim Kerr; Denise Buchholz, es- corted by alumnus Kenny Hodges, Sta- cey Murray, escorted by alumnus Der- eck Lewis. Denise was chosen to be the 1987 Homecoming queen by her senior classmates. After the dance, many students got together with their friends and shared some memorable times. Senior Cindy Snow commented, My boyfriend and I had a great time at the dance and after- wards we went to Saylorville Lake with a few friends and enjoyed a quiet and peaceful time together. 10 HOMECOMING DANCE
