H455 CC 99 p Class The Class Act. As the student body filed between the great cement columns at the entrance, there was a Class y feeling. Many classy changes were evident to the returning sophomores, juniors and seniors. To the incoming freshmen, the new appearances were absorbed as if always there. Over the summer, a Class y paint job was applied to the halls and rooms of East. The halls were painted gray and the cafeteria, with its lobby, bore new black and red stripes around the entire area: new, Class y look for the Scarlets to see. One particular new face passed throught the halls that have changed in looks, yet the Class y feeling was still there. Mr. Bill Carlson, a former East graduate and quarterback, returned to coach the Scarlet football team. He gave them a Class y look with new equip- ment and jerseys portraying Lee Township. The boys' basketball team was a pre- season pick to be one of the best teams ever to grace East's gymnasium. They were ranked number l in the Des Moines Register's Class 3-A basketball poll, and rolled over Roosevelt in their Metro opener, 7l-59. The entire school rolled into the l985- I986 school year like a Steamroller with a new look, new faces, a solid sports program, and student involvement. That shows Class. That's why East is The 'Class' Act. With a cafeteria full of people, juniors Angie Eye- rly, Kerrie Brooks and Dawn Cameron dance at the lirst mixer of the year. ct l if I . , E . r 2 , 1, l t it , MJ g , A. , M C , ,, A i , X 1 C N fl fi fl L ll fl' X L' l 6 if ff ' . l . . . . 1 iifu if ill-V4 he f r ff, R xg at C X gl 2 if 1. yi fi C! !f,7Xy,.Ti t if fly as ' A 2 T.
