Holiday spirit alive at Cloud Roomg DJ provides music for festive 12-B Holiday, the l2-B theme, fit the spirit, attitude and festive attire of all those who attended this year's 12-B Formal. The dance was held at the Cloud Room in the Des Moines International Airport. The view from the oval Cloud Room included a brilliant glow of blue lights and an occa- sional airplane exiting down the runway. Ticker tape, balloons and stars of bright assorted colors brought a warm and festive look to the Cloud Room. All 12-B host- esses took part in the decorating early Satur- day morning at 7 a.m. They transformed the drab room into a colorful holiday forum ready for an evening of excitement. At the dance, the ongoing traditions of 12-B were kept alive through the announce- ment of each hostess and her escort and with the presentation of the wine goblets to the hostesses and their escorts. A few new flairs were added to the for- mal. Instead of tickets, the hostesses de- cided on invitations. The true idea behind being a hostess is that the hostess is entitled to invite any upperclassman that she wishes. Attendance at this dance is con- sidered a privilege because the people at the dance were INVITED to attend. In charge of organizing the formal was senior Julie Cort. Designers of the invita- tions and programs were seniors Laura Baker and Dawn Stevens. A special thank- you was extended to Mrs. Gwenn Copple, Spanish teacher. Without her organization and confidence, the dance would not have been such a success. 12-B Hostesses Mindy Anderson Laura Baker Paula Bebensee Mindy Bishop Shawn Boers London Brandt Terri Breton Kellie Burns Suzanne Carlson Tracy Clark Julie Cort Karmen Guy Kristi Hecker Reahnna Hilbrand Sherry Hockett Michelle Houge Brenda J ustiniano Jill Kaboonrum Myla Kittle Tina Kohlbusch Rachon Lester Missy McCollum Tracie Moore Donnella Miller Jennifer Nelson Lieu Nguyen Diana Oliver Lisa Pack Teresa Patrick Lisa Pettinger Kelli Pugh Tiffany Rice Shawn Rios Lori Rogersou Tina Rose Andrea Sachs Dawn Sanders Kim Schlenker Dana Smith Renee Smith Dawn Stevens Ronda Stuve Shannon Tumer Angie Vasquez Lynn Workman Connie Winget Shannon Young Kelly Zapf I0 I2-B FORMAL Renee Roberts, senior, and Scot Cort, her 1 enjoy a slow, romantic dance by holding each close and swaying to the soft music. N W look for old Walls add flair East High received a new look last year. Starting in the spring ofthe 1984-85 school year. the old. dirty and drab walls of East High became shiny. colorful and sharp looking. The East High lockers. cafeteria and cafeteria lobby also received a new look. The lockers were painted a tan color, and the cafeteria and cafeteria lobby had new designs added to them. The students and faculty of East took great pride in the new look for their school. Not only did students enjoy the new look. but they also took extra care in how they treated the school. As Mrs. Maxine Sinn- ard. cafeteria manager. said. I think it was neat. and I feel the students did a great job keeping the newly painted cafeteria clean. Many students felt the new designs also helped to boost East's image: Rick Schmidt. senior: It looks really nice and improves our image. Randy Rollins, sophomore: It looks great, and the colors in the cafeteria and cafeteria lobby add a lot of pride and spirit. Russell Lane. sophomore: It was really great for our school and it made it more interesting. I really liked it! Many students went by day by day and did HOI even notice the changes East had undergone. The addition to the cafeteria and cafeteria lobby are definitely a boost to our school's looks and creative image. As senior Robert Lyle said 'fThe changes East has been through are made for the student body to enjoy. I feel the new paint makes the hallways and rooms look a lot new and the designs in the cafeteria and cafet ria lobby really work to update o school. In another eight years the school will painted more new colors. As the Class '86 departs from East High, we hope th student body will take pride and care i their school. Everything done to East is f the students and it is up to them to tak care of it! RIGHT: Sophomores John Taylor and Jeff Car wright enjoy lunch as seniors Maurice Newby an Tom Kaut do the same. BOTTOM: Freshman Jeff Huitt and Kenny Burgess. Jeff Carmichael and Tim am up for the camera. - I2 THE NEW EAST 6
