Students Meet a Challenge with a New Perspective Geometry and second year algebra are being taught this year by Mrs. Kingsbury. This is her second year of teaching at East. Mr. Simonsen is teaching algebra and geometry. This is his third year at East High School. Very busy in the Math Department is Mr. Storer, who teaches advanced algebra, trigonometry, and probabilities and statistics. He has been teaching at East for eleven years and is sponsor of Computer Club. With our booming Atomic Age today, math has become a vital subject. It has become more important in recent years to obtain a broader knowledge in this area. Courses of higher math offered at East are trigonometry, and probabilities and statistics. Also offered in the Math Department are both first and second year algebra, and geometry. v A Mr. Huff, who is in his first year of teaching at East, teaches both geometry and algebra. Mrs. Kingsbury helps Laureen Hall solve a geometry problem while the rest of the class attempt a solution. 12—

Mr. Oxenreider, in his eighth year, teaches junior and sophomore English. He is also the coach for track and cross country- Miss Arnold teaches senior English and advises Travel Club. She is pictured with Craig Hamilton, who is explaining an English project to the class. Teaching the new course, Humanities, is Mr. Griffin, who is at East for his first year. Presenting some finer points of grammar to her senior English class is Miss Jones, who has been at EHS for the past five years. Miss Whitford is shown helping Jerry Logsdon with scenery. She teaches speech, drama, and radio and sponsors the AFS Club and Drama Club. 9L 1 Discussing another assignment with her class is Mrs. Schrage. This is her first year at East, where she teaches eleventh grade English. Along with advising the Pep Club and German Club, Mr. Caltvedt, who is at EHS for his second year, teaches sopho- more English and German. Senior English is taught by Miss Langen- feld. Gain Knowledge of the Unknown Through Progress Mr. Yount is explaining the various parts of the microscope to Vicki Ramirez. Besides teaching biology, he is a part-time counselor and heads the Science Department. Cutting open worms and frogs is just a portion of the fun biology students have each year as they attempt to dissect some obscene (?) creatures. Biology is the study of living organisms of plants and animals. In chemistry class, students learn how chemical changes occur, study elements and compounds, and conduct various experiments. The most advanced science course at East is physics, which is a study about the physical effects of energy on matter. Mr. Sloan is explaining the method of dissecting a frog to Craig Cochran and Larry Spain. In his eighth year of teach- ing at East, he has a full schedule teach- ing biology classes. At East for eleven years is Mr. Johns, who teaches chemistry. He also is active in instructing a Saturday science class. Performing one of the tasks of a science teacher, Mr. Peterson is shown helping Dennis Winegar with a project. He also conducts a Saturday science class. A very busy man is Mr. Johnson, who not only teaches biology and boys ' physical education, but also coaches sophomore bas- ketball and assists in varsity football. Actively coaching both wrestling and sophomore football, along with teaching biology, is Mr. Hand. He has been teaching at East for nine years. — 13—
