Facing the Modern World Understanding our modern world is of exceptional importance in every person ' s life. To aid in this under- standing, East High requires three years of social science for each student. For the sophomores, study is con- tinued from junior high with World History. Junior study is based on American History in preparation for the contemporary affairs studied in college. As for the seniors, study is concerned with American Problems and Economics on a local, national, and international basis. These courses are required because of a necessity to develop a clear knowledge for not only World History, but also for the democracy in which we live. We believe that to know history is to know yourself. Mr. Gulick is not only busy teaching American Problems and Economics, but also advising Student Court, assisting with Pep Club, and coaching Z Squad basketball. He is shown here supervising our Student Center. V 7 9 An East High School faculty member for four years, Mr. Cowles is presently teaching World History to EHS sopho- mores.
