(Top Center) Above all, Mr. Wil- liams has an interest in students, always helping and keeping spirits high. (Center Left) He is always ready to help the icachers with their problems, such as Mr. Akcrman and Mr. Perry or (Center Right) observing in teachers ' classes. With the close of this school year, Principal D. Q. Williams (Top Right) will retire after 40 years of service to East High School. He received his formal education from Cornell College (B.A.) and Columbia Uni- versity (M.A.). He taught for four years at Boone, Iowa, and one year at Lisbon, Iowa, before coming to East. (Top Left) Mr. Williams started his journey through the halls of EHS in 1924 as a physical education teacher. Advancing rapidly, he soon held the post of vice-principal; then, in 1954, he accepted the chief responsibility at East High School, and became principal. Our principal has taken part in many outside activities. Among his accomplishments: EDM Kiwanis President and Lieutenant-Governor of the Iowa-Nebraska Kiwanis District. (Lower Left) While at East, Mr. Williams has celebrated many birthdays and has been a part of many school activities. Duties at the Scarlet School are many for Mr. Williams. Making sure all classes operate smoothly, bal- ancing classes at the beginning of the year, and supervising 1700 students and 70 faculty members are only a few of his varied duties. A friendly smile, a helping hand always extended, the right word at the right time — these are the attributes of our principal. This is a small tribute for a big man who has served East High forty years. To him this book is affectionately dedicated. 45 Years— ' Tor the Service of Humanity — 4 —
