WITI-l A Drums - trumpets - cymbals! These in- struments, along with many others, bring to our mind the band. East High can really be proud of the band this year as in the years before. lt is, as usual, one of the best in the city. The new uniforms are very striking. We have seen how attractive and impressive they are on the field at the football games, and at various times during our school se- mester. H. Strasburg, Granger, Boles, Marshall, Till, R. Strasburg, Kile BANJCD Our school does not give sufficient credit and attention to our orchestra. This organi- zation gives as much time and work as does any in the school. At the school play, the senior follies, and other outside entertainment connected with our school, the orchestra fur- nishes music. Although our orchestra is not very large, it does a good job. Mr. Borg is the trained director to whom we owe much of the success of the orchestra. THE DIVINE FLORAH The 49'ers enjoyed entertainment just as we do today. Much ot this entertainment is provided us by the school play. The play this year, The Divine Flora, was a comedy in three acts. The students, who were chosen tor their acting ability, put in a lot ot work in turning out an excellent play. The play was about a rich unattractive girl, who changed to become a popular, at- tractive person. East High is fortunate in having such a capable director as Mrs. Laser. A CAPPELLA CHOIR The a cappella choir is East High's most highly skilled group ot singers. Miss Sigrid Greenhill is the person responsible for training such an outstanding group, and everyone ap- preciates the programs put on by them. Be- cause ot their tine singing, much is added to our Christmas Nativity program, where sing- ing is needed to add beauty and musical color. Some ot the other important programs that were given by the choir during the Christmas season were assemblies at Woodrow Wilson, and singing at the Rotary club. MAJOR AND MAJCDRETTES The drum major and the majorettes add much to the appearance of our band. At football games they march ahead of the band where they attract a great deal of attention. Often, during the half, the majorettes furnish a large part of the performance, while the drum major leads the band in his colorful array. The bright gold uniform of Dick Strasburg marching in front of the gay red and white display of the majorettes forms a striking pic- ture, especially at the evening games when the bright lights give a dazzling effect. GIRLS' SEXTET East High can be proud to have these at- tractive girls in their record of sextets. This year at assemblies, parties and other activi- ties where entertainment was needed, the sextet easily filled the bill. A large number of East High girls try out for the girls' sextet at the beginning of each year. From this group, the six most capable girls are chosen by Miss Greenhill. Through- out the semester they continue to take part in many programs. Miss Greenhill is the ad- visor of this group and helps them a great deal in their singing.
